"He's like fire and ice and rage. He's like the night, and the storm in the heart of the sun. He's ancient and forever. He burns at the center of time and he can see the turn of the universe."

The Doctor is a nine hundred year old alien from the planet Gallifrey. He is a Time Lord and he is the last. He fled his home world during his first incarnation, stealing an old Type 40 TARDIS doomed for decommission and quickly set out for the awaiting universe.

He was seen as a renegade in the eyes of his rigid society, whose complacency and pompous aristocracy inevitably drove the whimsical Doctor further into disenchantment with his people; a fact that would put the Time Lord at odds with the council on more than one occasion. He never agreed with their indifference to the plight of other ‘inferior’ races and therefore became a definitive rule breaker, turning a blind eye to Gallifreyan law and meddling out of ethical and moral principle to preserve the lives of others.

Now, centuries later, the Time War has left the Doctor orphaned to a civilization destroyed by war. He continues to travel through time and space, stumbling into new adventures as they come, but the guilt and loss weighs heavily upon him and now his adamancy to keep moving is more out of necessity than the simple enjoyment initially derived from the freedom the universe presented so many years ago.
